SiteGuard WAF vulnerability exploited by a hacker to breach the firewall and gain root access on Linux and Windows servers

Cybersecurity experts have issued a caution in view of the fact that hackers are seeking to exploit a specific weakness in SiteGuard Server Edition (the web application firewall) that could allow the hacker to seize total control of the impacted servers. The weakness is known as CVE-2026-106931, and its influence has been connected with the statistics function of SiteGuard Server Edition, which works by default. Once the breach has happened, the attackers can make use of the operating system commands with root privileges in Linux or SYSTEM privileges in Windows.

The corresponding exploitation of this weakness has been verified by Japanese cybersecurity authorities and site Guard its producer, EG Secure Solutions, which has produced the required security updates. This vulnerability deals with SiteGuard Server Edition versions 2.20 and higher.

This incident raises many questions since web application firewalls should protect websites from harmful traffic. Malicious hackers can take advantage of some weaknesses within these security tools to attack systems designed to secure different types of business applications.

So far, no one knows either the attackers’ identities or the number of attacked companies.

According to cybersecurity experts, businesses should immediately check the SiteGuard installations, save diagnostic files, and implement the latest updates provided by the vendor. For those administrators who can’t update the system, security recommendations offered by the vendor should be followed.

The event underlines the necessity to evolve and enhance cybersecurity tools since defensive solutions may have their own vulnerabilities.
