The State of ICS/OT Cybersecurity

The situation regarding cybersecurity protection for Industrial Control Systems and Operational Technology has grown more complicated as 2025 approaches. Advanced technology implementations in operational processes have created larger exposure points that increase vulnerabilities for critical infrastructure against cyber-attacks.

The major security concern exists in the growing number of cyberattacks executed by AI and machine learning (ML) systems. Companies must stay alert to new security threats because these complex attacks demand continuous development of defense strategies. Organizations need to employ AI and ML-based systems to detect and respond to advanced persistent threats because of their critical nature.

Cloud-related changes to Industrial Control Systems & Operation Technology environments have created new security risks. A new SANS ICS/OT Cybersecurity Report shows that the use of cloud solutions for ICS/OT applications has risen by 15% since last year, and current adoption stands at 26%. The increasing need for modern solutions to fight cyber threats becomes more urgent because the cybersecurity skill shortage continues to widen.

These emerging challenges drive the World Economic Forum to stress the need for well-established strategies that protect operational technology environments in the Global Cybersecurity Outlook 2025 document. Manufacturing facilities, along with critical infrastructure organizations, must start their cybersecurity strategy with security in mind to defend themselves from rising cyber threats.

The protection of cybersecurity resilience demands organizations complete serious vulnerability evaluations while considering real threat priorities when making strategic protection plans to defend themselves from long-term threats. A unique OT security plan helps organizations obtain instantaneous equipment awareness and manage their systems effectively. ICS will launch its inaugural event in Las Vegas on May 20-21, 2025.

The upcoming will connect more than 150 critical infrastructure and manufacturing IT and OT security leaders to share advanced cybersecurity information and build professional networks. Modern technological advances connecting ICS and OT systems require advanced security measures to become essential at an unmatched level.
