In a landmark move to enhance telecom accessibility, security, and empowerment across India, Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia launched the Sanchar-Saathi mobile application on Friday. The Sanchar Saathi Mobile App is a user-friendly platform developed to strengthen telecom security and empower citizens.
The Sanchar Saathi Mobile App will be made available for both Android and iOS platforms and will provide access to users with critical tools to secure their telecom resources and combat telecom fraud. Some of the tools in the suite include:-
Chakshu – Reporting Suspected Fraud Communications (SFC): Users can use the app to report suspected calls and SMS directly from mobile phone logs.
Know Mobile Connections in Your Name: Citizens can actively identify, verify, and manage all mobile connections registered in their name, preventing unauthorized usage.
Blocking Your Lost/ Stolen Mobile Handset: The app facilitates swift blocking, tracing, and recovery of any lost or stolen mobile devices.
Know Mobile Handset Genuineness: The app offers a convenient mechanism to verify the authenticity of mobile handsets to prevent the purchase of counterfeit devices, ensuring users purchase genuine devices.
India reportedly has over 900 million smartphone users nationwide. The Sanchar Saathi Mobile App aims to provide a seamless way for individuals to access these critical services with just a few taps on their devices.
Users will have to download the app from the Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS).
Once installed, on the home screen, you will find an overview of the app’s features. Tap on ‘’Explore’’ and a new page will appear, prompting you to register. Tap ‘‘Proceed’’ to begin registration. The app will request permissions (e.g., phone logs, SMS access, etc.). Tap ‘’Allow’’ for all permissions.
Enter your first and last name as required. An SMS will then be sent by the app to 14422 for verification. Ensure your mobile balance is sufficient to send this SMS. After registration, you can access various features like fraud communication reporting, for which the user can select the fraud reporting option.
Upload a screenshot of the suspicious communication along with other relevant details about the fraud and submit. Now, the authorities can take further action on the reported issue.
The app is a robust effort by the government to help keep citizens safe against the rapidly rising cyber scams by easing the process of reporting such acts.
