Anthropic’s Claude AI faced another service disruption on August 24, with users and developers experiencing elevated error rates across several of its major AI models. The incident adds to a growing list of outages that have affected Claude throughout August.
The problem was first reported at 05:06 UTC, when Anthropic said it was investigating elevated errors affecting multiple models. Claude Mythos 5, Fable 5, Opus 5 and Opus 4.8 were among the affected systems. About 20 minutes later, Anthropic said it had identified the cause and was working on a fix.
This was not limited to people using Claude through its regular website. The disruption also affected the Claude API, Claude Code and Claude Cowork, potentially impacting developers and businesses that have integrated Claude into their daily workflows. Anthropic’s Console and Claude for Government services remained unaffected.
Users encountering the issue reportedly saw elevated error rates, including “529 Overloaded” responses, an indication that requests were facing capacity or service-availability problems. While the immediate disruption was eventually resolved, the bigger concern is the frequency of these incidents.
Anthropic’s status history shows several Claude disruptions during August, including incidents on August 5, 12, 13, 16, 18 and 20. During the August 18 outage, more than 4,000 user reports were recorded by Downdetector within hours.
For organizations increasingly relying on AI for coding, security operations, automation, customer support and other business-critical tasks, repeated outages highlight an important lesson: AI availability is now part of operational resilience.
