Thousands of pagers used by the Lebanese paramilitary group Hezbollah exploded on Tuesday, which resulted in the deaths of nine individuals and the injuries of nearly 3,000 others. The attack has been linked to Israel by the group. Among the injured was Iran’s ambassador to Beirut.
Hezbollah has referred to it as one of the most significant security breaches recorded since the group was established. According to reports from several organizations, after being hacked by Israel, thousands of pagers exploded simultaneously across the country. The Ministry of Health has requested that the owners of pagers dispose of them.
The explosions, which resulted in over thousands of injuries and at least nine fatalities, revealed a new battlefield in contemporary warfare: cyberspace. Thought to be safe and dependable, Hezbollah’s dependable pager network was abruptly compromised, becoming a string of explosives intended to target individuals who carried them.
A Hezbollah official claims that while the group struggles to contain this unanticipated attack, the death toll keeps rising. Hezbollah had just received a fresh shipment of pagers a few days ago; the group thought these devices were less hackable than today’s smartphones.
”After carefully examining all the current facts, circumstances, and available information regarding the horrific attack that occurred this afternoon, we hold the Israeli enemy fully responsible for this criminal aggression, which also targeted civilians and resulted in the martyrdom of several individuals and the injury of many others with varying degrees of wounds,” said Hezbollah. “Our martyrs and injured represent our jihad and all of our sacrifices made along the way to Jerusalem, for our noble people in Gaza and the West Bank, and as continuing field support. We shall always be proud and honored of our unwavering support, assistance, and unity with the courageous Palestinian resistance, both here on Earth and in the hereafter. Without a doubt, this dishonest and criminal adversary will get the just punishment it deserves for its vile action, both in ways it expects and ways it does not.”
According to a report by the New York Times, the explosion was caused by the components embedded in the pagers. According to reports, the material was implanted close to the battery, and it was equipped with a switch that could be activated remotely to cause the explosion.
In accordance with the information provided by American and other officials who were briefed on the operation, the pagers were made by the Taiwanese business Gold Apollo before being imported to Lebanon. On the other hand, Gold Apollo disclosed to The New York Times that the products were manufactured by a European firm, BAC, which possesses a license to trade under the Gold Apollo brand. In a written statement, Gold Apollo stated, “We only provide brand trademark authorization and have no involvement in the design or manufacturing of this product.” This remark was made in reference to the situation.
